The Beyond Adventure Staff Team
Steve has worked full-time in outdoor education for the past 25 years. He holds the British Canoeing Coaching Diploma (UKCC Level 4) as well as a British Canoe Union Level 5 Coach award as well as holding Scottish Mountain Leader Training Boards Summer and Winter Awards and various ski qualifications.
His particular passion is the outdoors and those activities which take place in an expedition or journey context, hence the emphasis placed on open canoeing and expeditioning in our Beyond Adventure programmes.
Steve also acts as Technical Advisor to many Outdoor Centres across the UK in both open canoeing and kayaking.
From the corporate world Jason brings a wealth of experience in supporting and enabling businesses to develop and prosper, as well as that Beyond Adventure essential; a real passion for the great outdoors. He works both in the office and with groups on the river or on the hill.
A key member of the Beyond Adventure team for many years now, Mark has been central in developing our new activities and expeditions on offer at our new Riverside base. Always cheerful and always keen to be out of the office, Mark will meet you on the water this year either in a canoe, kayak or on a SUP. Mark's previous jobs have taken him all over the world, from being one of Santas helpers in Lapland to working seasons kayaking in the Ardeche.
We were delighted that Grant decided to join the Beyond Adventure team full time in April 2017 and luckily for us he is happy enough to stay! Grant’s passion is expeditioning. He loves heading out on everything from micro adventures to multi day expeditions and having the opportunity guide people into the beautiful places that you can't get to by car. His favourite way to do this is by paddling but says: “as long as there's good company and a beautiful place I don’t mind how I get there”.
His enthusiasm for the outdoors started as a young six year old kid growing up in rural Argyll and his enthusiasm was nurtured by the Scouts. There has been no looking back since.
He has been privileged to work and journey throughout the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. Although Grant’s first love is paddlesports where he is qualified as British Canoeing (UKCC) Level 3 canoe coach, and moderate water endorsed white water Level 2 Coach he also has mountaineering, climbing and biking qualifications.
Grant also works with the team at Hou Canoe as a brand ambassador.
Tom, aka Moose, has slowly been working his way northward, via a few forays into working abroad, since his decision to work in the outdoors. Now at home in Scotland, there is no turning back, and sharing the joy of the highland's many rivers and hills is a particular passion of his. He is always on the hunt for a new adventure or challenge and is expanding horizons at home as well as abroad. Whether by boat, bike, foot, snowboard or van he does not mind; so long as there’s new places to explore and people willing to come along.
Joining us in 2018 for the summer season is Ellie.
Growing up in rural Argyll on the Cowal peninsula, Ellie had lots of opportunities for adventures and this inspired her to pursue a career in the outdoors. She has enjoyed working with a wide range of people from Cub Scouts to Gold Duke of Edinburgh participants. After working on the west coast for a few years she has decided to base herself somewhere with “a bit nicer weather and a lot less midges!”
Ellie loves meeting new people and helping people to have their own adventures! Her first love is canoeing but is always just happy to be out and about, as long as there is cake and coffee at the end of the day!
In the Office...
Holding the fort when we're out there is Julie (and sometimes Jason) who looks after all things administrative. Ellie is also joining the office team but she is multi talented and can head into the great outdoors as an instructor when we're busy.
Our team is further enhanced by our associate staff; key amongst whom are Laura, Anna, Ian, Fred & Tom.
